Take Action

Open Letter to Congress: Act on Climate

In these uncertain times, our Christian witness is more important than ever. Our leaders need to hear that, as evangelical Christians, we want them to take action on behalf of God's creation and on behalf of the poor and vulnerable around the world. Sign the letter to our members of Congress, and consider joining us in Washington D.C. from April 29-May 1 to hand deliver it yourself.

Dear Member of Congress,

As evangelical Christians, we are committed to a vision of the gospel that understands that all things are under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and that the entire creation is being reconciled back to God through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. This commitment compels us to speak and act in the public square so as to fulfill the dual commands of loving God and loving our neighbors.

Millions of people, both in the United States and around the world, are threatened by the impacts of a changing climate. Climate change disproportionately impacts the poor and vulnerable around the world—those who have contributed least to the problem and are least able to adapt; those that Christ called us to serve sacrificially and to love as we love ourselves. As such, we believe that climate change represents one of the greatest moral challenges of our time, but also one of the greatest opportunities of our time. An opportunity for the United States to lead the clean energy revolution that is already underway and gaining steam with every passing day. An opportunity for the United States to continue its tradition of moral leadership on the international stage.

We are a movement of evangelical Christians who are deeply concerned about the impacts that climate change is having on our planet, and particularly on the most vulnerable.  We are therefore compelled to act for the sake of our country, our global neighbors, and God’s world.

We urge you, then, to take concrete steps toward enacting just, compassionate, and comprehensive climate legislation that will preserve God’s creation, protect the poor and vulnerable, and cement the United States at the front of the clean energy revolution. We stand ready to support and defend you.  Thank you for your leadership and your service to our country.

In Christ,
