Welcoming Our 2016-2017 Climate Leadership Fellows!

Y.E.C.A. is excited to announce its new cohort of Climate Leadership Fellows for the 2016-2017 academic year!

Beginning in 2014, the Climate Leadership Fellowship is a selective program designed to train and equip student leaders on college campuses to advance the movement toward climate action in their respective communities. We are thrilled to have seven such leaders enrolled in our 2016-2017 cohort, spanning two continents. Over the past three years, the Climate Leadership Fellowship has equipped over a dozen student leaders to make a difference on their campuses.

Chasity Martinez, Sean Lyon, Kaitlyn Nikirk, and Shannon Farmer

This year’s Climate Leadership Fellows began their work with a training and planning retreat in mid-August. Over the four days that they were gathered together, they discussed the science of climate change, the theology and ethics behind climate action, the distinctiveness of faith-rooted organizing, and began crafting their work plans for the coming year. The five U.S. fellows even had a chance to Skype with one of the two fellows based in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

We are excited to walk with these gifted students as they work to raise awareness about climate change on their campuses in the coming year. Be sure to check back periodically for updates on their various projects and the progress they are seeing! Read the individual profiles of our fellows.
