Evangelicals Gather In Paris: A COP21 Reflection

As national delegations and countless global NGOs have descended upon Paris to observe and influence the outcome of the Paris climate talks, a community of evangelical Christians has also come to add its voice. Under the umbrella of the Lausanne Creation Care Network and A Rocha International, over 100 evangelical Christians from all around the world gathered today for an all day conference in the city called A Christian Response to Climate Change. Theology, personal stories, science and moral philosophy combined for a day of deep learning and conviction.

Waiting in Advent Hope: A COP21 Reflection

It was the first Sunday in Advent, and I was waiting. Waiting for my plane from Budapest to Beauvais, France. Waiting for my bus to take me from Beauvais to Paris. Waiting for the metros and the shuttles to the COP 21 venue. Waiting for my train to the village north of Paris where I could finally drop off my luggage and unpack. It was the first Sunday in Advent, and I spent the whole day waiting.

Announcing New Y.E.C.A. Leadership

In the early days of 2012, a small group of young evangelicals met together at the home of an NAE Board member in Washington, DC, to prayerfully discern a faithful collective response to the growing climate crisis. We left that weekend retreat with the beginnings of a new national initiative called Young Evangelicals for Climate Action, and it’s been a remarkable and hope-filled journey ever since.

Late last month, several of us in the YECA family gathered for the 2015 Ohio/Pennsylvania Regional Summit at Malone University in Canton, Ohio. It was fitting that YECA’s first regional summit for cultivating young climate activists should take place a stone’s throw from the iconic Cuyahoga River, which - when it caught on fire in the summer of 1969 - helped spur a historic wave of ecological awareness and a generation of environmental activists in the United States.

YECA Prays For & Participates In the People’s Climate March

NEW YORK CITY — YECA Steering Committee members and young evangelicals from across the country gathered together on Sunday, September 21st to take part in the People’s Climate March. The march, which started on the west side of Central Park and wove itself through Manhattan, was attended by nearly 400,000 people, making it the largest climate march in history. The gathering was scheduled to coincide with the UN Climate Summit held in New York City later that week, a convening of world leaders to pave the way for a climate agreement to emerge from the crucial COP meetings scheduled to take place in Peru this year and Paris next year.
